SPECTRUM ROAD

Spectrum Road is: Vernon Reid, Jack Bruce, Cindy Blackman and John Medeski

This all-star band emerged from a discussion between Vernon Reid and Jack Bruce when Vernon was touring and recording with Jack around 2003. They bonded over how much they admired the groundbreaking music of Tony William's Lifetime, in particular the first and second editions of that seminal band, particularly the second edition, in which Jack participated with Larry Young and John McLaughlin and recorded the classic album Turn It Over in 1970.

Vernon suggested using John Medeski on keyboards and Tony Williams acolyte Cindy Blackman on drums. This band premiered in December 2008 at the Blue Note in Tokyo. The 2011 shows were the first time the band has played in the United States.[read more]

Beastie Boys Official Statement On The Death Of Adam Yauch

jim_marshall

It is with great sadness that we confirm that musician, rapper, activist and director Adam “MCA” Yauch, founding member of Beastie Boys and also of the Milarepa Foundation that produced the Tibetan Freedom Concert benefits, and film production and distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories, passed away in his native New York City this morning after a near-three-year battle with cancer. He was 47 years old.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Yauch taught himself to play bass in high school, forming a band for his 17th birthday party that would later become known the world over as Beastie Boys.

With fellow members Michael “Mike D” Diamond and Adam “Adrock” Horovitz, Beastie Boys would go on to sell over 40 million records, release four #1 albums–including the first hip hop album ever to top the Billboard 200, the band’s 1986 debut full length, Licensed To Ill–win three Grammys, and the MTV Video Vanguard Lifetime Achievement award. Last month Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, with Diamond and Horovitz reading an acceptance speech on behalf of Yauch, who was unable to attend.[read more]

Call for Papers - Sonic Studies Special Issue: Rethinking Theories of Television Sound (Deadline: May 31, 2012) http://www.sonicstudies.org Call for Papers are invited for a special issue of the Journal of Sonic Studies that will reexamine the most persistent accounts of television sound, from the 1980s to the present, and reflect on these accounts in terms of contemporary changes in the production and consumption of television. Studies on television sound typically begin by emphasizing that the fundamental differences between film and televisiondifferences in terms of structure, content, and modes of addressare a direct result of the fact that film privileges the eye over the ear, while television privileges the ear over the eye. comicleben_comiclife erlaubt einen Blick in das Leben von Menschen, denen sich die Kreativität und Faszination des Comics bereits eröffnet haben.

Kuedo: Ascension Phase
video created by Konx-om-Pax and Sabrina Ratté Taken from the album 'Severant' (Planet Mu 2011)

In an interview for Dazed Digital, Berlin based producer Kuedo unveiled this stunning video to Ascension Phase from his ‘Severant’ album. Made by Glasgow artist/producer Konx-om-Pax and Sabrina Ratté, it brings to life the futuristic world that Kuedo’s music envisions. “It’s nice breathing human life and sentiment into the machines and computers around me in the studio,” said Kuedo in the accompanying interview. “The weird blur between synthetic and human is one of the loveliest things about electronic music itself.” This video reflects that sentiment perfectly.
